Sony is offering a system software update for Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera ILCE-7.
Improvements:
Optimising the performance for SEL70200GM
Benefits provided from previous updates includes:
- The system software update for optimising the new lenses performance. (Applied to lenses released after 2016 March)
- Startup time is shortened.
This page provides instructions on how to update the system software for camera ILCE-7 to version 3.20.
Follow the instruction below to check the system software version. If the system software version is version 3.20, the update is not required.
How to check the system software version
- Select Menu > Setup > 6 > Version on the camera.
- The system software version is displayed. If your camera system software version is already Version 3.20, this update is not necessary.

System requirements for a computer
- Supported OS
- Mac OS X v.10.10–10.11 / macOS 10.12-10.13*

- CPU: Intel processor (Core Solo and Core Duo processors are no longer supported.)
- Hard disk space: 300MB or more
- RAM: 512MB or more
- Power source for the camera
Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or AC adaptor AC-PW20 (sold separately).
Note: The update can be performedonly when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery or the AC adaptor AC-PW20 (sold separately). - USB support cable supplied with the camera
Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

Important Notes:
- Please close all other application software before upgrading the system software.
- Please do not choose "about This Firmware Updater" from Firmware Updater Menu especially while updating because it is reported that it may crash this updater software.
- When performing the system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or the AC adaptor AC-PW20 (sold separately).
- Do not remove the battery or AC adaptor during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
- Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
- Prevent your computer from sleep mode beforehand.
- Download the update file
Download the file to your computer. Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended). - Start up Firmware Updater
- Double click the downloaded file Update_ILCE7V320.dmg to start up Firmware Updater.
Do not connect the camera yet at this point. - Double-click the Update_ILCE7V320 icon which appears on the Desktop.
- Double-click the Firmware Updater icon.
- To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account.
- Firmware Updater starts up.
- Double click the downloaded file Update_ILCE7V320.dmg to start up Firmware Updater.
- Check the USB connection mode
- Turn on the camera.
- According to the Firmware Updater instructions, select Menu > Setup > 4 > USB Connection on the camera, then check if Mass Storage is selected. If a mode other than Mass Storage is selected, select Mass Storage.
- Connect the camera to the computer
Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.- connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable. If the LCD screen of the camera dose not turn off, please try the following methods.
- Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
- If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals.
- Click Next on the Firmware Updater. The following image appears on the Firmware Updater.
And the following image appears on the LCD screen ofthe camera.
Note: From now on, do not turn off the camera until the system software update is completed.
Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD screen of the camera turns off. Please proceed to the next step.
- connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable. If the LCD screen of the camera dose not turn off, please try the following methods.
- Check if the update is required
- After confirming the LCD monitor of the camera, click Next. The current version and the version after the lower left part of the screen.
Upgrade is required
Note: If the below screen appears, the update is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then turn on the camera again.
Upgrade is not required
- After confirming Current version is Ver. 3.10 or earlier, click Next.
- After confirming the LCD monitor of the camera, click Next. The current version and the version after the lower left part of the screen.
- Reset the camera
- The screen below appears.
- Press the center of the control wheel to execute.
Note: The screen turns off when the center of the control wheel is pressed. Please proceed to the next step. - Click Next on the Firmware Updater.
- The screen below appears.
- Start the update
- After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the following image appears.
- Click Run to start the update. The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 15 minutes).
Note: Do not turn off the camera or disconnect the USB cable while updating. - After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the following image appears.
- Complete the update
- When the update is completed, the camera will automatically restart. It may take a few minutes to restart. Make sure the camera is turned on and wait until the LCD screen appears again. Click Finish when the LCD screen appears.
Note: After automatically restarting of the camera, a restoration screen may be displayed.
While it is displayed, please donot disconnect USB cable. And after finishing a restoration, the camera may power off automatically. But the update is completed. - Disconnect the USB cable.
- When the update is completed, the camera will automatically restart. It may take a few minutes to restart. Make sure the camera is turned on and wait until the LCD screen appears again. Click Finish when the LCD screen appears.
- Check the system software version
Follow the instruction to confirm the system software version is Ver. 3.20.
- Select Menu > Setup > 6 > Version on the camera.
- The system software version is displayed.
