I have forgotten the password of Administrator. What should I do?

I have forgotten the password of the user who has Administrators privilege (user that belongs to Administrators). What should I do?

To resolve the problem, try the following solutions depending on the situation.
* Note that the password is case-sensitive.

A. [When a user with the administrator privilege (user who belongs to Administrators) has been created in addition to the user who forgot the password.]

Change the password as a user with the administrator privilege (user who belongs to Administrators) in accordance with the following procedure:

--Procedure--
1) Log on to the system as a user with the administrator privilege (user who belongs to Administrators).
2) Click [Start] -> [Settings] -> [Control Panel] and double-click on the icon of [Users and Passwords].
3) Click the [Advanced] tab in the [Users and Passwords] dialog box and click the [Advanced] button in the [Advanced User Management] box.
4) When the [Local Users and Groups] window appears, double-click on the [Users] icon on the tree located at the left-hand side of the window.
5) Right-click on the user (whose password you have forgotten) shown on the window on the right-hand side and click [Set Password]. The [Set Password] dialog box appears.
6) Type the same password in the text boxes of both [New Password] and [Confirm password] carefully. Alternatively, you can keep both text boxes blank.
* The password is case-sensitive.
7) Click the [OK] button.
8) After you have typed the same password in the text boxes of step 6, the message "The password has been changed." appears. Click [OK] to close the message box.
9) Close the window on the screen.
10) Log off the system or restart it, and log on as the user whose password you have forgotten.

B. [When there are no any other users with the administrator privilege (users who belong to Administrators)]

When there are not any other users with the administrator privilege (users who belong to Administrators), there is no other way to resolve the problem than to restore the system to its default state by using the Recovery CD-ROM supplied with the computer. Make sure that you do not forget the passwords of the Administrators and user with the administrator privilege (user who belongs to Administrators).

--Remarks--
When you initialize the hard disk with the Recovery CD-ROM, all files stored onto the hard disk will be wiped out. Even if you do not initialize it, there is no guarantee that the files on the disk are safely stored. Make sure that you back up your important files on floppy disks, for example, before you reset the system. For further details, refer to "To reset the system with Recovery CD" in Users Guide.
