How to set up and use the System Restore feature in Windows 8 and 8.1.

The System Restore feature allows you to revert your computer back to the way it was at a previous point in time. This is an excellent way to fix various computer problems or undo any system changes that may have occurred since that point. In order for the System Restore feature to be able to work, you must first establish an initial Restore Point. Follow these steps to create a Restore Point.

NOTE: Once the initial Restore Point has been created, the System Restore feature has been activated and will automatically create a new Restore Point whenever there are any significant system changes, but you can also use this procedure to manually create a restore Restore Point at any time, should you wish.

1. Point to (but do not click) the lower-right or top-right corner of the screen, and then click to select the Search charm.
   

   NOTE: The Windows Logo + W key combination will also take you to the Search screen.

2. In the Search screen, in the Search field type System Protection, and then click the Create a restore point icon.
3. In the System Properties window, click the Create button.
   
4. At the Create a restore point prompt, type a description to help identify the restore point, and then click the Create button.
   
5. At the The restore point was created successfully prompt, click the Close button.
   

IMPORTANT: After at least one Restore Point has been created you will be able to use the System Restore feature to revert your computer back to the way it was at the time the Restore Point was created.
