How to restore the computer using a system image backup created thru the Windows Backup and Restore feature

    The Windows Backup and Restore feature allows you to create a system image backup. The system image backup is used to restore the entire Windows partition, such as programs, system settings, and files.



    WARNING: There is a risk of data loss. Sony does not guarantee that all or any data can be backed up or restored from the backup.

     

    IMPORTANT:

    1. You already must have created a system image backup for any of these methods to work.
    2. Make sure the removable media that contains the system image backup is available before proceeding.
    3. If the operating system on your computer will not start, you must use Method 2 or Method 3.
    4. You already must have created a system repair disc to use Method 3.

    Use one of the following methods to restore a system image backup.


    Method 1: Use the Recovery Control Panel
    1. Click the Start button and then click Control Panel.
    2. In the Control Panel window, click Backup and Restore.
    3. In the Backup and Restore window, in the Restore section, click Recover system settings or your computer.

    4. In the Restore this computer to an earlier point in time window, click Advanced recovery methods.

    5. In the Choose an advanced recovery method window, click Use a system image you created earlier to recover your computer.

    6. In the Do you want to back up your files? window, click the Skip button.
    7.  In the Restart your computer and continue the recovery window, click the Restart button.      

           NOTE: The computer will restart automatically

    8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the restore procedure.

    Method 2: Use the pre-installed recovery options
    1. Restart the computer.
    2. At the VAIO screen, press the F8 key.
    3. In the Advanced Boot Options screen, verify Repair Your Computer is selected and then
    press the Enter key.
    4. In the System Recovery Options window, click the Next button.
    5. Enter the appropriate username and password and then click the OK button.
    6. In the Choose a recovery tool window, click System Image Recovery.
    7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the restore procedure.

    Method 3: Use a system repair disc
    1. Insert the system repair disc.
    2. Restart the computer.
    3. At the Press any key to boot from CD or DVD screen, press the Enter key.
    4. In the System Recovery Options window, click the Next button.
    5. Click to select the Windows 7 partition and then click the Next button.
    6. In the Choose a recovery tool window, click System Image Recovery.
    7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the restore procedure.
